Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between MDS and Omnicell blister packs?

MDS (Monitored Dosage Systems) refers to compliance packaging where medications are organised by day and time. Omnicell is an advanced automated blister packing machine that produces individual dose pouches with enhanced accuracy, barcode verification, and faster processing. Both achieve the same outcome which is organised medication administration, but Omnicell offers additional automation, verification, and efficiency benefits for larger care homes.

How does Medicare software integrate with our existing eMAR system?

Medicare seamlessly integrates with most leading eMAR systems through secure data connections. Prescription updates, medication changes, and stock levels sync automatically, eliminating duplicate data entry and ensuring your eMAR records are always current with our pharmacy dispensing records.

What is Camascope and why is it important?

Camascope is our photographic verification system that captures images of every prescription before dispatch. A qualified pharmacist reviews these images to verify accuracy. This provides an additional quality control layer, creates a permanent visual record for audit purposes, and gives you peace of mind that every medication order has been double-checked.

How does Biodose improve medication safety?

Biodose uses barcode technology to track individual medication doses from dispensing through to administration. When integrated with eMAR systems, it creates a complete digital chain of custody, records when doses are given, alerts for missed doses, and provides comprehensive data for medication reviews and CQC inspections.

Can we mix MDS blister packs and original pack dispensing for different residents?

Absolutely. Many care homes use MDS blister packs for residents on multiple regular medications and original pack dispensing for PRN medications or residents who manage their own medications. Our Medicare system handles multiple dispensing methods seamlessly.

How quickly can you set up these systems for our care home?

We can typically implement our full service including Medicare software, chosen dispensing method (MDS, original pack, or Omnicell), Camescope verification, and Biodose tracking within 7-14 working days. We manage the entire transition to ensure zero disruption to resident medication supply.

Is training provided for care home staff?

Yes, comprehensive training is included for all our systems. We provide on-site training for Medicare software, Biodose scanning procedures, and best practices for medication administration using our packaging systems. Ongoing support and refresher training are available whenever needed.
